2008/02: Anticorruption 2
FLGR started work on the Project “Dissemination and implementation of the curing and preventing corruption approach at Local Governments’ level”. This project builds on the results of the Anticorruption Project.
The openness of drastic vote buying during the Bulgarian local elections ‘2007 and massive appearance of local “business” parties and coalitions, demanding the local power marked and verified the growing uneasiness of Bulgarian citizens that the local governments would be used as a tool to divert European funds resources and public financial means from serving the public interest to serving the interests of a few.
It is very important at the beginning of the new mandate to establish standards of openness and accountability of the local government, to raise public awareness of the possible steps for curing and prevention of corruption at local level and the mayor’s and municipal council members’ awareness in the field and accepting rules that would enhance the rule of law and would guarantee the protection of public interests of the communities.
In September 2007 FLGR released in Bulgarian the Manual “Restore the Health of Your Organization” and disseminated it among all Bulgarian municipalities.
FLGR works in 2 municipalities – Mezdra and Panagyurishte.
Project Goal
- Dissemination and implementation of the practical, strategic approach to curing and preventing corruption in 2 pilot local governments in the municipalities of Mezdra and Panagiurishte.
Project Objectives
- Raise Mayors’ and Municipal Council Members’ Awareness and Interest in order to identify committed Clients in the municipalities of Mezdra and Panagiurishte.
- Initiate and implement Intervention Processes for Curing and Preventing Corruption in the municipalities of Mezdra and Panagiurishte.

The project will be carried out in the period February – August 2008 in the framework of REGIONAL PROGRAM 2007-2008, managed by FPDL – Partners Foundation for Local Development, financed by LGI – Local Government Initiative of the Open Society Institute.
