2008/02/15: FLGR starts work on "NGOs - Reliable Partners For Development" Project

The Foundation for Local Government Reform’s project named "NGOs - Reliable Partners For Development" was approved upon the first open call for proposals "Development of the structures of the civil society - effectiveness and professionalism in achieving partnership with the administration and the judicial system" under Operational Program "Administrative Capacity". The implementation of the project started in February 2008 and it will take place in South Central planning region, more particularly in the regions of Smolyan, Pazardzhik, Stara Zagora, Haskovo and Kardzhali. It is an 18-month project whose goal is to strengthen the capacity of the NGO sector in South Central planning region to develop and implement local and regional policies in partnership with the public administration.
The main objectives of the project are:
- To develop specific knowledge and skills of the civic organizations, working in the fields of local development, good governance, civil rights and social activities, for partnering with the public administration;
- To improve the organizational capacity of key NGOs contributing to the development of the NGO/public administration relations in South Central planning region.
The expected results of the projects are:
- Analysis of the current situation of the NGO sector in South Central planning region
- Improved organizational capacity of 45 local NGOs
- Certified 15 NGOs as mediators between the citizens and the Community’s institutions
- Certified 50 NGO representatives as community development and institutional partnership experts
In addition, two topical editions named “European practices for partnership of NGOs and local authorities” and “Legal framework for citizen participation in local policy formulation” will be produced and disseminated among NGOs throughout the country.
Furthermore, a comprehensive web portal containing detailed contact information of more than 200 NGOs working in the fields of local development, good governance, civil rights and social activities will be developed. The portal will assist organizations to partner and network. Announcements for important events that are organized and implemented by NGOs will be regularly uploaded on the portal. There will be also a library section which will provide access to documents of NGO importance. A discussion forum will complement the library giving an opportunity for exchange of experience, knowledge, practices and any other information that support the development of NGO sector.
