The permanent solution of the water supply problem was a priority of the municipal administration, which had been looking for alternative ways to draw foreign investments. The Municipality won financing as part of the Danube River Initiative Program of the Foundation for Local Government Reform and the US Agency for International Development. As a result, it realized an infrastructure project of great social importance and practical application in everyday life.

The Municipality of Aksakovo and the Embassy of Japan in Bulgaria signed an agreement for funding the project Completing the construction work of a school in the Village of Luben Karavelovo . The project aimed to provide normal conditions for the education of children of mixed ethnic background upto fourteen years of age. Such conditions have been missing from the village of L. Karavelovo during the last years.

In 1998, the Ministry of Environment and Waters and the Municipality of Nessebar signed a contract to finance finishing of the construction work and launching into exploitation the waste treatment plant Obzor Byala . Until the end of 2000, 90% of the construction and assembly work was brought to end. According to a contract between the Ministry of Environment and Waters and the Danish Environment Agency, the machinery and equipment needed were provided with Denmark government funds. The water treatment plant started operation in 2001.

The practical activities for the urbanization of the Iztok Quarter in the Pazardzhik Municipality are being effectively combined with environmental education initiatives. The Badeshte Association, in partnership with the municipality, prepared and implemented a project for combining these ambitious and diverse strategies on the territory of the Roma District. The result is a considerably improved infrastructure and environment.

The problems of Roma citizens have long been on the agenda and the current activity of local authorities brings them one step closer to their solution. The Municipality of Radnevo addressed the Government and the Council of Europe for financial support of a project for the construction of houses for socially disadvantaged Roma families. The cooperation of state institutions has also been sought.

The downtown development idea was included as a pilot project within the technical twinning program between Stara Zagora and Durham, NC. According to the strategic downtown development program adopted by the Municipal Council, construction sites within the program were defined - central city square; municipal building and enclosed area; the area to the east from the Art Gallery; the area to the north from the Post Office; the Augusta Trayana Roman Forum; the buildings of the theater, opera, covered market, ex Communist Party building.
