Background
During 2007 the voluntary acceptance of the existing and operating radiobroadcast network on the territory of the municipality of Yablanitsa was realized. Furthermore themayor of Yablanitsa was bound by the municipal council to organize the creation of the necessary legal basis for making activity “Radiobroadcast” and this came to include a new section - Feesand prices for radiobroadcast.
Soon came the idea the Municipal Council meetings to betranslated directly on the radio-network. It turned out to be a very good form of publicity in the Municipal Council’s work. The municipal administration took its place in the transmissions, too.
Practice
The activation of the municipal radio network opened opportunities for more complete publicity and transparency in the activities of Municipal Council and Municipal Administration. The former practice lacked of clear idea and opportunity for people from the municipality to receive information for the Municipal Council and the Municipal Administration work. The only way to get information when a Municipal Council meeting was held, was the “Information board”, and the attendance and participation of citizens happened rarely. That’s why with the radio network activation an emphasis was put on the efforts towards informing society and feedback from citizens. The following aims were set:
- more listeners, more opinions, more and stronger dialogues;
- opportunities for citizens to follow the process of decision making from the Municipal Council;
- three days before each Municipal Council meeting citizens can inform themselves not only for the agenda of the Municipal Council, but also for the agenda of its constant commissions’ meetings;
- direct radio distribution of Municipal Council meetings;
to make citizens familiar with Mayor’s work.
Results
-         informativeness;
-         transparency;
-         strengthening of civil positions;
-         forming a positive attitude toward local authority bodies;
-         strengthened participation in solving community problems.
