The project Capacity Building for Sustainable Land Management is a joint initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Environment and Water and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The project is financially supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and co-financed by the MoEW.
The FLGR started work on the component of the project concerning capacity strengthened for land planning, sustainable production, participatory decision-making, and monitoring at local level.
This will be done through enhancing municipal development planning process, establishing participatory and consultative mechanisms and procedures for land use and management related decisions. Land users will benefit from technical capacity building activities in areas of sustainable forestry, sustainable agriculture and sustainable livestock production.
FLGR will provide expert assistance to 10 municipalities to revise their Municipal Development Plans 2007 – 2013 in accordance with the national policy and principles of the sustainable land management. In addition, FLGR will help the local stakeholders to identify feasible and relevant project ideas in the area of sustainable land management , which will be developed into full project concepts, eligible for funding under the various Operational Programmes of Bulgaria.
Steps of the Project implementation:
• Informational Campaign on Sustainable land management issues (January – February 2007);
• Selection of 10 pilot muicipalities (February 2007);
• Project Ideas Contest in the pilot municipalities and development of the full project concepts (March 2007);
• Realization of the local projects in the pilot municipalities with the financial support of the SLM Project in the amount of $ 10,000 per project (March – June 2007);
• Work with municipal experts on revision of the Municipal Development Plans 2007 – 2013 of the 10 pilot municipalities in accordance with the national policy and principles of the sustainable land management (April – Jlye 2007).
