Every year in November the world celebrates World Day of Geographical Information Systems. This year's GIS Day in Bulgaria will be celebrated on November 16 and 17 with a number of initiatives at leading universities in the country, as well as the official cocktail accompanied by a Map Exhibition and Contest.

The events are organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Ministry of Environment and Water, courtesy of ESRI Bulgaria, HP Bulgaria, GIS Varna and Bulgarian Geo-Information Company. GIS Day 2011 is conducts with the partnership of FLGR, BGBC, BASSCOM, BAGIS, NAMBRB, Green Balkans, Bulgarian Mapping Association, University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski", Faculty of Geology and Geography in Sofia University, University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, University of Forestry and with the media support of Stroitelstvo Gradat Newspaper.

GIS Day celebrations in Bulgaria aim to promote Geospatial technologies to enable businesses, public administration and education to exchange experiences and share their achievements and vision for the development of GIS in the country.

With each passing year the GIS community in Bulgaria is growing, and GIS Day is becoming ever more popular, covering all spheres of economic life!
