2007/03: Closing ALAVA Project Conference
On 16 March, 2007 the Closing ALAVA Project Conference was held in Poland.

The Conference was attended by more than 60 participants - representatives of educational institutions from the Pomerania region (at the Baltic Seaside), representatives of the local authorities and of the Ministry of Education in Poland.

At the Conference the
results of the work on the project in Bulgaria and Romania were presented. Also the experience of management of centres for adult education and good practices from Germany and Switzerland were presented.

The second part of the Conference was dedicated to the polish experience of work in rural areas.

In the Conference Ginka Kapitanova, Executive Director, Vesselina Komitska, Programme Director, and Nikoleta Efremova, Training Officer, FLGR, took part.

The ALAVA Project 2004 - 2007 (Adult Learning as an Added Value to the Activities of Community-based NGOs) was funded by the EU Grundtvig I Programme and partially by the Swiss Federal Office for Professional Education. FLGR took part as a partner in the project together with 6 other organizations: the
German Adult Education Association in Bonn, the European Institute of Social Services at University of Kent, UK, the Swiss Adult Education Association (SVEB), the Kaszubski Uniwersytet Ludowy, Poland, the Romanian Association for Community Development, and the European Training Centre LACTEA in Bulgaria.

The project is aimed to strengthen the capacity of the local community organisations and add more value to their activities through establishing adult learning centres within community-based NGOs.

The Bulgarian community-based NGOs project partners at local level were:

    Community Centre Bratya Miladinovi - Village of Mikrevo, Municipality of Strumyani
    Community centre Dobry Voinikov - Municipality of Shoumen
    Community Center Razvitie - Municipality of Peshtera
    NGO Business Centre - Municipality of Svishtov
    YMCA centre Gabrovo


    Results of the ALAVA project in Bulgaria:

    In Bulgaria after selection of five Bulgarian community-based NGOs partners at local level and needs assessment with the assistance of the local partners by means of a questionnaire through 40 courses completed were trained 551 people - students, teachers, unemployed, participants from NGOs and municipalities.

    The training held were on the topics: Preparation for work (ICT Skills, Entrepreneurship), Personal development, Project management and Community development.

    The participants evaluated the courses and the training material developed as very useful, practically oriented and well appreciated.

    As a result of the project the capacity of local NGOs as adult learning training centres was built, there is a pool of experienced trainers at local level.

    There are possibilities for continuation of the training activities – in projects under the European Structural Funds.
